Newport

Today was a beautiful day so we took a scenic drive to Newport RI following Rt 138 instead of the Interstate.  What a beautiful and peaceful drive.  The rhododendrons here are in full bloom and beautiful.  And every small town has a white church with a tall steeple.  Brought back memories of the opening scene from Peyton Place that we all watched in the '60s.

In Newport, we had a wonderful lunch at an outdoor restaurant called The Black Pearl and then took a drive along Bellevue Ave. to see the mansions.  For block after block we passed the most gorgeous estates - huge mansions and manicured lawns.

Since we were in the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park NY just a couple of weeks ago, we decided not to pay to go into the Vanderbilt Mansion in Newport called, "The Breakers."  We did stop to take a picture of it though.  Only 80 rooms in this one.

After leaving the mansion section of Newport, we took a drive along the scenic ocean drive.  Jim and I absolutely love the coast in New England.  To see and hear the waves hitting the rocks is delightful.  This is our favorite place to enjoy what He hath made.

Not sure what tomorrow will bring - maybe some local sightseeing during the day and then out for fish tomorrow night with a couple we met and are fast becoming good friends..

I'm still having difficulty posting pictures.  I might have to post them after we get to a location with better Internet service.

Life is still good...
