Our Annual Michigan Visit - Durand MI - July 21 - 28

Although we only lived in Michigan for less than a year, Aaron was born here and very special friendships were formed.  We have come back to visit almost every year since 1980.  When we made our travel plans this year, we anticipated our Michigan visit to include visiting friends as well as Aaron and Sheridan since they moved here two years ago.  Little did we know that before we got here, Aaron and Sheridan would move to Grapevine TX.

We did, however, spend four wonderful days visiting with our special friends, Lou and Lorraine Weckwert.  Jim and Lou were able to get in a couple days of golfing while Lorraine and I went on our annual shopping spree.  We also had a chance to meet up with another special friend, Karen Hornus.  Since Jim was in Wisconsin when Aaron was born, it was Karen who got me to the hospital and Lorraine who was with me for that momentus occasion 34 years ago.

We spent one day visiting Ann Arbor where we had a great lunch and then took a ride to see the Law Library on the grounds of the University of Michigan. For anyone who has watched the Harry Potter movies, much of the filming was done here.  What a beautiful building.

Even the ceiling is beautiful

We also spent one day at Greenfield Village in Dearborn.  Greenfield Village was established by Henry Ford to preserve and share some of the history of this country.  It's a beautiful place to visit and we thoroughly enjoyed the day.  It was fun experiencing history of the early 1900s and watching the "first" Fords drive people around the streets.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of the "outhouse" behind the Sarah Jordan Boarding House.  We actually had one of these at our home in Stuyvesant Falls.  Wonder if it is still there...

We have enjoyed our visit to lower Michigan and tomorrow will head to Newberry MI in the Upper Peninsula to explore along the shores of Lake Superior.  Life is good.
