Plymouth - June 5th & 6th

We searched for our special rock from 38 years ago.
In June of 1975, I made a trip to Pymouth with Valerie and Penny to visit my friend Sandy.  Sandy took us to visit many of the historical sites but the most memorable for me - and I think the girls - was a visit to one of the beaches.  I have a picture of the girls sitting on a rock (Penny with her shoes off which was a common occurence) and the ocean in the background.  We each have a framed picture on display in our homes.  It was a wonderful trip and I will always have wonderful memories of bringing the girls here.

Jim and I tried to find the "rock" - not sure we found the right one because of all the changes in 38 years - but it was fun walking along more beaches.

The history of Plymouth is quite interesting so we did the tourist thing and did tours of the Plimouth Plantation, the Jenney Grist Mill, heard the story of the Mayflower and Mayflower II, and of course, saw "Plymouth Rock."

Plymouth Rock

It was fascinating to hear the stories of how the colony survived.  Plimouth Plantation has character actors portraying life in 1627 and answer your questions about life at that time.  The homes are all built as they were in 1627.  In addition to the colonists, there is an indian village and they provide in great detail how they survived and interacted with the settlers.

On Monday, we will leave the Rochester MA campground and head north to Salisbury State Park near the New Hamshire border.  From there we will visit some of the sites in Boston as well as visit our old vacation spot in York Beach ME.  And next Saturday, the 15th, we are meeting up with one of our "exchange student" sons and his family.  We have not seen Kanishka since 1992 so we are excited to see him again.

We are truly blessed to be able to make this journey.  He is guiding us along this wonderful opportunity.  Life is good.
